WORKSHOPS: HIV and Mental Health & HIV and Women

HIV WORKSHOPS

Friday, October 28
9am – 4:30pm at Mayfair United Church

The Canadian AIDS Treatment Information Exchange (CATIE) and AIDS Saskatoon invite you to two new, interactive workshops:

HIV and Mental Health
This workshop on HIV and Mental Health is designed for people who work with people living with HIV. We begin by exploring depression, anxiety and suicide and how they’re affecting people with HIV and continue by discussing HIV Associated Neurocognitive Disorder (HAND), clarifying the signs and symptoms that service providers may be seeing in their clients. The workshop builds knowledge and provides an opportunity for learning and sharing techniques that will assist frontline workers to support clients who may be experiencing mental health challenges while living with HIV.

HIV and Women
This workshop seeks to develop an understanding of specific HIV risk factors for women. It looks at women’s challenges in addressing their HIV-related health needs by addressing physiological, social, economic and other factors that put women at risk of infection. Groups of women that are particularly vulnerable to HIV infection and disease progression are identified and strategies to deal with the health concerns of women living with HIV are also discussed.

There is no cost for the workshops, and lunch will be provided. Workshops are appropriate for outreach workers, social workers, nurses, people living with HIV, and others looking to build on their understanding of HIV/AIDS.

Spaces are limited, so you must register by Friday, October 21 if you wish to attend. For more information or to register, please contact Tina at AIDS Saskatoon at 242-5005, or reception@aidssaskatoon.ca.
