AIDS Saskatoon Board of Directors

Joanne Horsley
President

Joanne has been involved with AIDS Saskatoon for only a brief time, but she loved it so much that she wanted to become a part of it! Lilla Watson said it best: “if you have come to help me you are wasting your time, but if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together.” Joanne would like to work together with the PWAS and other members of our Saskatoon community to continue bringing services and programs to AIDS Saskatoon that center on the service user. Joanne is the Women to Women Domestic Violence worker at the Avenue Community Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity. Joanne is the only straight-identified person currently working in her queer organization, and apparently she is pretty funny for a straight girl!

Glenn Harvey
Vice President

Christine Chang
Secretary

Christine got involved with AIDS Saskatoon through volunteer work at the Sexual Health Centre through the Power of Many program. What interests her about AIDS Saskatoon, alongside the fantastic staff, is its holistic approach towards aiding those in the community affected by HIV/AIDS. She believes that promoting prevention and harm reduction is important in building a healthier community, and that having a supportive environment that provides such education is vital. Christine is very excited to be a part of the AIDS Saskatoon board, and hopes to contribute to it to the best of her abilities! Christine also knits, sews, writes, does karate, and plays both piano and cello -- all badly!!

Anna Hunter
Treasurer

Nanette Breker
Nanette previously worked as a nurse in the downtown east side of Vancouver, B.C., with a specialization in HIV and addictions. Since moving to Saskatoon, she has been looking for more ways to get involved in the HIV community. A year ago Nanette worked as a volunteer at the Westside clinic with the SWITCH program. She is dedicated to improving harm reduction, and to increasing support, education, and resources for people living with HIV/AIDS. She divides her time between being a mom, knitting, cooking, gardening, and caring for her crazy Jack Russell.

Meaghan Friesen
Meaghan has been aware of AIDS Saskatoon for some time, and has always wanted to pitch in and contribute to their good work. This is her first experience in governance of a community-based organization. Meaghan is looking forward to being a part of AIDS Saskatoon as they grow as an organization and as a resource for the people of Saskatoon. In her professional life, Meaghan is a public health nurse working in Street Health, and she feels very privileged to be able to work with people living with HIV. She is also raising a new puppy!

Brian Kembel

Brian Morrison
Brian became involved in AIDS Saskatoon several years ago as a client. He has had the privilege to work with Cathy Johnson and Jody Shynkaruk in the Storytellers Project. He was also a volunteer for approximately two years at St. Thomas Wesley United Church, working every Sunday with the city’s needy. Brian has been clean for more than a year. He truly believes in AIDS Saskatoon’s harm reduction philosophy, and the work that AIDS Saskatoon does in the community.

Terri Rothenburger

Jammie Townsend
Jammie has been an active supporter of AIDS Saskatoon since 1996 -- that's 13 years! Jammie attributes his motivation to work in HIV/AIDS to his sister Tracie, who passed away from AIDS-related illness after an 8-year struggle. Jammie is incredibly passionate about AIDS Saskatoon and the effort to support people affected by HIV, their families and loved ones. Jammie, always on bike, is active on the Fundraising Committee and takes a lead role in soliciting donations for the Christmas Hamper program.

Patti Trotchie
Patti Trotchie became involved with AIDS Saskatoon through her job as a Mental Health & Addictions Outreach Worker. Noticing increasing numbers of her clients testing positive for HIV, Patti made contact with AIDS Saskatoon. She worked out a deal with her employer to spend one afternoon a week at the 601, and has since become a fixture - providing support for PWAS and valuable networking for staff. Patti is committed to harm reduction, is a proud mom, and really likes to rock and roll.
