Getting Tested for HCV
The only way a person can find out whether or not they have Hepatitis C is to get a blood test. If a person has been newly exposed to HCV the window period for the body to start making HCV antibodies is 6 to 9 weeks. 3 months after the initial exposure to Hepatitis C is a good time to get tested.
See Get Tested for info about where to go in Saskatoon.
What if the Blood Test comes back positive?
A diagnosis of Hepatitis C is not possible with a single blood test. Your health care provider will order a second blood test to determine whether if the virus is living actively in the blood. They may also do tests to check out the state of your liver. For a detailed list on all the tests involved visit hepcinfo.ca.
